Once Upon a Time asks what is normal at NYCC

first_img Once Upon a Time creators, Adam Horowitz and Eddie Kitsis, and star Jennifer Morrison took the stage of the Hammerstein Ballroom Friday afternoon to share a little bit of what’s ahead for the fairy tale drama. After an early screening of this Sunday’s episode, the panel talked about the themes this season will explore. All the characters this year will be trying to figure out what “normal” is for them. They’re finding that solving crisis after crisis is unsustainable and eventually they’ll have to figure out what they want their everyday lives in Storybrooke to be.Emma and Hook will also take their relationship further this season. That sound you just heard was every Oncer reading this collectively yelling “Finally!” Even on the show, Hook brings up just how slow they’ve been taking their relationship. Morrison said one of the interesting things they get to explore this season is how Hook and Emma handle real-life relationship stuff. They’ve faced evil after evil together, but what happens when they get annoyed at each other for completely mundane couple reasons?Emma is also dealing with a lot this season, as we’ve already seen. Morrison says the character went from having a fairly normal-ish life to being the savior of an entire town. She’s solved countless life and death situations without any downtime to process that. One of the things Morrison most enjoys about this season is that they’re now dealing with the post-traumatic stress being a savior causes.Cinderella’s story is featured in this week’s Once Upon a Time. (Photo: Screenshot via YouTube)As for this weekend’s episode, we learned the real story of Cinderella and saw why exactly the Evil Queen wants all the untold stories to play out. They generally don’t end happily. Snow White and Charming also start to figure out what they want to do with their lives assuming the crises ever stop. Minor spoiler: Snow wants to teach again and has some decent ideas about how to get a school running. Also, as you’d expect, a character makes a really dumb decision at the end that will have most of you screaming, “whyyyyyy?!” at your television. One of the best things about this show continues to be the relationship between Emma, Snow, and Regina. Morrison says it’s her favorite part of Once Upon a Time. The fact that the show centers on three women fighting for each other rather than against makes her proud to be a part of it and she says it’s even inspired her to be a better friend in her own life. While they obviously couldn’t tell us everything that happens this season, they did give us some clues. Next Sunday, we’ll learn the origin of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde. Surprise: Rumplestiltskin is involved. When will people learn to stop trusting that guy? We’ll also finally see Aladdin and Jasmine again, which I’ve been waiting for since the season began.Beyond that, we will get an answer as to the identity of the hooded figure who kills Emma in her dreams… by Christmas. Until then, continue to speculate wildly. Apple Carl Zeiss Partnering For Smart Glasses

first_imgIt seems like the world’s largest tech company could be jumping into the smart glasses game, according to an anonymous tip from a Carl Zeiss employee. Famed tech blogger and entrepreneur Robert Scoble broke the tip on his Facebook page. According to Scoble, the German optics manufacturer might announce a “light pair of augmented/mixed reality glasses” this year as part of a collaboration with Apple.Scoble said that he pressed Zeiss representatives to tip their hand. Previously, Apple was rumored to be preparing AR tech for a 2018 launch, but Scoble is confident that the set will release later this year.Rumors about an Apple-made version of the Google Glass or Microsoft’s HoloLens have been floating around for a couple years now, so it’s probable that the company’s been working on smart glasses for some time and could be nearing a release-ready gadget. If Apple’s patent filing from last June is any indication, we could be getting a flexible, AMOLED-driven translucent screen that wraps around the user’s head. Alternatively, the patent includes a process which would allow a lens to deform and then return to its original shape. That means we may even see eye glass frames that will accept modified lenses that could popped in and out as needed without damaging the transparent AMOLED display. While a good chunk of people on earth have readily adopted smart phones, other wearables have been slow to pick up steam. Google Glass didn’t do super well, and its users took a lot of flak for being a bit out of touch. Like it or not though, Apple’s been something of a trendsetter, and while they’re often among the last to get some things to market, when Apple does launch a new device, it tends to do pretty well. So it’s possible that Apple’s move could be the big push AR glasses need to go mainstream.Technically, this is all rumors and hearsay, but given how these things tend to go, I’d say it’s a good bet Apple’s got something cooking. For now, I’m just wondering how weird and pretentious the company will get with the name. Maybe iSpecs? Or iS (said “eyes”)? WHO KNOWS.last_img read more
