Sykes claims pole

first_imgTom Sykes will start the second round of the Superbike World Championship from pole position after topping qualifying at MotorLand Aragon in Spain. Press Association The Kawasaki rider was quickest in the final superpole session ahead of joint championship leader Eugene Laverty, on the Aprilia, and the BMW of Chaz Davies. Sylvain Guintoli, who sits alongside team-mate Laverty at the top of the standings with 45 points, was fourth quickest to complete the front row of the grid. center_img Suzuki’s Jules Cluzel was fifth quickest ahead of Sykes’ team-mate Loris Baz, Davide Giugliano on the second factory Aprilia and Davies’ team-mate Marco Melandri. Jonathan Rea (Honda) and Carlo Checa (Ducati) rounded out the top 10 but one rider not making the grid for Sunday’s two races will be Cluzel’s team-mate Leon Camier. A fall during Friday’s first qualifying session left the British rider with a badly gashed knee which required surgery and the injury will keep him out of action for several weeks. last_img read more
