Lakers rumors: Los Angeles didn’t make having cap space for third star a priority in Anthony Davis trade

first_img NBA Draft 2019 rumors: Lakers ‘aggressively’ looking to acquire second-round picks Lakers rumors: Los Angeles eyeing third max contract player, looking to shed salary NBA free agency rumors: Lakers, Knicks among 6 teams interested in Bobby Portis Here’s @ramonashelburne explaining more about this whole execution date fiasco.— Anthony F. Irwin (@AnthonyIrwinLA) June 20, 2019Shelburne reported:”This is all so unnecessary, too. The way this trade was constructed, this should have been first and foremost on their minds as they were talking to the Pelicans. … If this was really their plan, they want to have a third star, this should have been central to their conversations with the Pelicans. My understanding is, it was not. It went all the way down the road and it has been described to me as the Lakers called back after everything had been discussed about this.”The Lakers also never asked Davis to waive his trade kicker, which would have given them an extra $4.1 million to spend this summer, according to a report from Bleacher Report. Related News Los Angeles is now shopping the contracts of reserves Mo Wagner, Jemerrio Jones and Isaac Bonga to other teams in the hopes of clearing more cap space after the Davis deal, according to ESPN. Those three players, who combined to average 10.2 points per game last season in limited playing time, are set to earn around $5 million in 2019-20.Los Angeles has been linked to Kemba Walker, Jimmy Butler, Kawhi Leonard and Kyrie Irving, among others. But, if the team makes no more moves, it’s only expected to have around $23 million available this offseason and will not be able to offer a max contract. The Lakers reportedly acquired Anthony Davis last weekend in one of the biggest trades in NBA history. But, they may have regrets about some of the aspects of the deal.  Los Angeles could have less cap space to pursue a third star to pair with Davis and LeBron James because of the way it handled the transaction, ESPN’s Ramona Shelburne said during an appearance Wednesday on “The Jump.” The Lakers reportedly have interest in Bobby Portis, Marcus Morris and Al Horford, as well. They’re also “aggressively pursuing the purchase of second-round picks,” according to ESPN.The Pelicans sent Davis to Los Angeles in exchange for Brandon Ingram, Lonzo Ball, Josh Hart and three first-round picks, including the No. 4 selection in 2019.last_img read more

Vuka Scuta races into Africa

first_imgThe stylish Vuka XT150, a nippyperformer with a powerful engine that isideal for freeway cruising.(Image: Vuka Scuta) The Vuka RT 125 is to be launched inAugust 2009. (Image: Vuka Scuta)Janine ErasmusNot content with revolutionising the way South Africans commute, local developer Vuka Scuta is now branching out into other African countries. The company has started marketing its motor scooters in Mozambique, Angola, Zimbabwe and the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).Launched in 2006, the  Vuka (an isiXhosa word, meaning “wake up” or “get moving”) two-wheelers have become increasingly popular, especially in light of the unpredictable cost of fuel, high interest rates, and often unbearable congestion of South Africa’s urban roads. The stylish motorcycles and scooters are manufactured in China but assembled in South Africa and have been developed for South African and African conditions. Features include improved rubber components, stronger shock absorbers, and more durable instrument panels for the African sun.Vuka evaluated more than 30 Chinese motorcycles and scooter models before deciding on the right models for the African climate and road conditions. The company has recently spent considerable time developing a motorcycle specifically designed for African road conditions – the Vuka RT 125, which will be launched in August 2009.Vukas arrive in a semi-knocked-down state in crates from China, and after years of perfecting the process, assembly staff can put a vehicle together in less than an hour. All vehicles are extensively tested before moving on to the retailer, and the mostly manual assembly and testing processes have enabled Vuka to create a number of new jobs.Ideal marketThe first outlet to sell Vuka scooters beyond South African borders opened in Maputo in June 2009. The company has already received and several bulk orders for motorcycles and scooters from Angola, Zimbabwe and the DRC.Vuka seeks to follow the example set by a number of South African retailers and manufacturers, who have moved out across the continent. Mobile provider MTN, brewing giant SABMiller, fast food chains Nando’s and Steers, and retailers Woolworths, PEP Stores and Shoprite Checkers, among others, have all set up shop in other African countries.Vuka Africa MD Tinus Lamprecht said in a statement that the company foresees a large and potentially lucrative market in the African continent, since it offers a viable transport solution to people looking for ways to ease the effects of the current global economic downturn.“We felt that it is essential to develop and establish potential new markets to enable Vuka to continue its growth and to broaden our brand footprint,” said Lamprecht. “Although each African country presents its own challenges and requirements, we feel confident that we have the necessary experience and products to tackle these markets successfully.”Mozambique is the ideal market in which to launch an African operation, he added, because fuel in that country is expensive, roads are becoming increasingly congested as the economy gathers momentum, and many people in rural areas travel long distances to get to work in the cities.Initially the cost-effective vehicles will be sold to government departments, NGOs and the agricultural industry. A second Vuka outlet is due to open before the end of July in Inhambane, located 470km northeast of Maputo in southern Mozambique.Taking over the continentVuka has plans to begin operations in the east African country of Kenya, as well as Angola and other West African countries. In the Southern African region, Botswana, Swaziland, Lesotho and Zimbabwe may soon see the colourful Vukas zipping around their streets, as the company is following up a number of enquiries.  Vuka recently participated in the South African International Trade Exhibition and attracted enquiries from Zambia, Tanzania, Cameroon, Botswana, Ethiopia, Malawi, Zimbabwe, Burkina Faso and the DRC.As in the case of South Africa, Vukas will be adapted for the specific market, fuel and road conditions found in other African countries. The company will also follow the trend it has set in its South African operation by establishing assembly plants in various other regions. It will train technicians in these countries to the levels required to ensure that Vuka customers continue to receive Vuka’s excellent after sales service.Changing the lives of commutersCape Town-based Vuka Scuta captured a 20% market share in its first two years of business. Vuka states that its goal is to “revolutionise personal mobility” and change the lives of hard-pressed South African commuters by selling top quality scooters at the lowest possible prices. The company is wholly owned by the Luna Group, a 23-year-old diversified business founded by entrepreneur Barney Esterhuyzen and his family trust; as well as Titan Nominees, part of the Titan group run by retail masterminds Dr Christo Wiese and Renier van Rooyen Jnr. A small stake is held by Vuka’s Hong Kong agent.Scooters are sold all around South Africa through a network of 32 outlets and dedicated dealers. In mid-2008 the company claimed to be selling one scooter every 26 seconds during normal business hours. All retail outlets are backed up by trained and accredited service centres that carry a wide range of spare parts and can competently attend to any problem.Vuka’s cheapest model is the economical and fuel-efficient EL90, which sells for US$696 (R5 499). The flagship RM 200 sells for $1 643 (R12 999). There are four motorcycle models in the range, two scooter models, and a semi-offroader.Vuka scooters have been developed and tested to ensure a comfortable ride and excellent stability. Quality checks at licensed manufacturing plants overseas are followed by equally stringent tests at the local assembly facilities. Each vehicle offers storage areas and quirky but useful features such as a red light that blinks to alert the driver of an incoming mobile call.Do you have queries or comments about this article? Apple Slams The Door On Super Mario

first_imgRole of Mobile App Analytics In-App Engagement Tags:#app developers#Apple#iPhone Why IoT Apps are Eating Device Interfaces nick statt ReadWrite has confirmed that the GBA4iOS app will not download to a new device. MacBuildServer apparently builds the app and attempts to install it, but then an error screen pops up stating that the iPhone is “unable to download application.” That’s presumably because Apple either voided the certificate used to sign off on the app or limited it so it’s not authorized to distribute apps from third parties. The Story So FarTo recap, MacBuildServer was being used as both a stand in for Apple’s Xcode compiler and as the official account holder for installing the GBA4iOS app. To install the app, all anyone needed was to click “Install” on the app creator’s Github page. That would take them to MacBuildServer, which would build the app using the freely available code, sign off on it with its own enterprise developer certificate and install the app—no jailbreak required. That whole setup was clearly living on borrowed time, of course. MacBuildServer’s decision to open up its certificate to any and all users was a clear violation of Apple’s terms of service for enterprise developer accounts.Surprisingly, though, Apple seems to have taken a rather reserved approach here. For instance, it could have changed the entire structure of its enterprise developer program to disallow mass test-app installations. (And it still might, of course.)The Emulator LivesThose late to the party still have another way to get the GBA4iOS app, though it’s neither cheap nor easy. All a user needs to download the emulator is his or her own developer account, which costs as little as $99 a year and grants a certificate to install non-App Store apps. What’s still not entirely clear is whether MacBuildServer will still build the GBA4iOS app for users with a developer account. Our experience so far suggests that it will, and MacBuildServer’s announcement at least sounds encouraging on that front:But don’t leave a hope!Updates are coming and we will return white magic soon! We’re working on launching a lot of new features for developers to turn MacBuildServer into casual continuous delivery tool to help them launch great apps faster. What to do right now? Maybe, it’s time to enroll in Apple developer program for $99/year to continue using our service and try new features of iOS 7 without any limitations?I pinged the company directly on whether it will continue to compile the app for registered developers, and I’ll update if I hear back from them.If MacBuildServer is out of the game, then users will need to compile the app themselves using Apple’s Xcode development environment. That’s a slightly more complicated process, and it still requires the user to have a developer account in order to actually install the resulting app on a non-jailbroken device.   Related Posts Apple has closed the loophole in its iOS Developer Enterprise Program that let MacBuildServer, a company that assists mobile developers, build and install an unofficial app that allows people to play Nintendo games on their iGadgets.See also: Super Mario Zips Through A Loophole In Apple’s App RestrictionsTechnically, the app emulates a Game Boy Advance. Nintendo doesn’t make its games available on iOS devices, and apps that can play pirated games typically won’t run on an iPhone or iPad unless they’re jailbroken.MacBuildServer broke the news in a blog post Wednesday morning:Yesterday someone from Apple called to Serge, our founder, and noticed that [the] enterprise certificate registered to our company was[sic] been used violating Apple’s agreements. How The NSA Is Trying To De-Cloak Tor Users

first_imgServerless Backups: Viable Data Protection for … The NSA has been systematically attacking the anonymizing Tor network in order to spy on its users, according to leaked documents obtained by the Guardian. The Tor network is an open-source software project that renders users anonymous by relaying multiply encrypted communications across many different computers around the Internet, effectively obscuring a user’s location and activity from anyone conducting surveillance or analyzing Web traffic. (Such as, say, the NSA.) The network makes it much more difficult to trace site visits, messages, posts or other communications to any particular individual.According to the Guardian, the NSA has been working to circumvent Tor security for quite some time, albeit with limited success. As a result, the intelligence agency has had better luck targeting suspects’ computers:One technique developed by the agency targeted the Firefox web browser used with Tor, giving the agency full control over targets’ computers, including access to files, all keystrokes and all online activity.Attacking a user’s computer is a tried-and-true NSA method for obtaining data. This is what has allowed the agency to “break” file encryption and Tor anonymity: if the user’s computer is compromised, no amount of security can will help.In a related Guardian story, security expert Bruce Schneier details how the NSA can bypass Tor security directly via “man-in-the-middle” attacks that apparently direct a targeted Tor user to special servers that mimic legitimate sites such as a bank or Google. Those fake sites, hosted on what the NSA calls “FoxAcid” servers, then seek to infect the target’s browser and inject it with malware that can compromise a Tor connection.Image courtesy Reuters/ Kai Pfaffenbach Cloud Hosting for WordPress: Why Everyone is Mo… Tags:#nsa#tor Related Posts center_img Top Reasons to Go With Managed WordPress Hosting How Intelligent Data Addresses the Chasm in Cloud brian proffittlast_img read more

ISL: Jamshedpur keen to get back to winning ways (Preview)

first_imgJamshedpur, Nov 24 (IANS) Jamshedpur FC will look to arrest their slide when they square up against defending Indian Super League (ISL) champions Chennaiyin FC at the JRD Sports Complex here on Sunday.Although Jamshedpur are in the top half of the table, the hosts have only a mere two wins from eight matches, which is less than half of the teams placed above them.Coach Cesar Ferrando will take heart from the fact that they have lost just once, but the fact that they have drawn five games will give him a few headaches.Tim Cahill, who played his testimonial game for Australia this week, is back in contention for a start after missing out on the last match. Sergio Cidoncha, who scored three goals this season, is recuperating in Spain after picking a knee injury and Ferrando wants his team to not concern themselves too much about his absence. “Sergio is injured. We have lost him until January. He has suffered an ACL injury. It is a big blow for us. Sergio was definitely playing well but he is not here now. We have to continue playing and play well,” said Ferrando.Sumeet Passi has been in good form with two goals already from 334 minutes and will look to build upon his display against FC Pune City.Of the four games Jamshedpur are to play before the league enters its third break, three are in the comfort of their home soil. Chennaiyin FC, meanwhile, need to pick as many points as possible to move up the standings. They are placed ninth with just four points to show for their efforts from seven matches.Coach John Gregory will be pleased that skipper Mailson Alves returned to form in their last outing in Pune. He would want Jeje Lalpekhlua too to get back to his best as the Mizoram striker is yet to open his account.Anirudh Thapa and Germanpreet Singh put in a hardworking shift for India against Jordan and both were involved in the move leading to India’s consolation. The midfield duo will have to produce a similar display in Jamshedpur where they will be up against Mario Arques and Memo.Francis Fernandes’ deliveries from the right will be a cause of concern for the home side as they will look to not afford him space and time on the ball.”We come here probably not as strong as we were last season and Jamshedpur are probably more stronger. We are definitely not taking the match lightly,” said Gregory. Ferrando will want a reaction from his players after their defeat in Pune and Gregory would be keen to build on their win in Pune. An intriguing battle awaits in Jamshedpur.–IANSkk/vmadvertisementlast_img read more

Report: Tennessee’s Marquez North Not Enrolled In Classes For Spring Semester

first_imgMarquez North of Tennessee Injured.Marquez North Tennessee Injury RumorMarquez North did not live up to expectations as a junior, catching only six passes in seven games this season, but he still may have played his last game in Knoxville. According to the Knoxville News Sentinel, Tennessee spokesman Ryan Robinson confirmed that North is not enrolled at UT this semester. While it has not been confirmed that he will test the NFL Draft waters, one would assume that is the move for North now. Beat writer Dustin Dopirak shared more on Friday.… Obviously, others have reported that North has hired an agent and entered the draft. We have not been able to confirm that.— Dustin Dopirak (@TennesseeBeat) January 15, 2016Tennessee athletics has said repeatedly all this week that it does not know North’s plans.— Dustin Dopirak (@TennesseeBeat) January 15, 2016His high school coach, Mike Palmieri, told me last night he hadn’t heard anything about North leaving.— Dustin Dopirak (@TennesseeBeat) January 15, 2016But right now, the one thing we can say definitively is that North is not enrolled for the spring semester.— Dustin Dopirak (@TennesseeBeat) January 15, 2016One more note on North, just so you guys know I’m trying. The NFL doesn’t release the names of underclass draft entrants for another week…— Dustin Dopirak (@TennesseeBeat) January 15, 2016… and it won’t confirm or deny any players who have declared before that time.— Dustin Dopirak (@TennesseeBeat) January 15, 2016North’s apparent decision to leave college is a strange one. He does have the size to be a big target at that level—he’s listed at 6-foot-3, 229 pounds—but the production wasn’t anywhere near what was expected out of him. We should know more about this situation in the coming days.[]last_img read more
