Jr. Lone Star Bows 2-0 to Guinea

first_imgLiberia’s hope to qualify the preliminary stage of the African Youth Championship scheduled to take place in Zambia in 2017 was desperately dampened yesterday at the Antoinette Tubman Stadium when Guinea defeated Liberia 2-0.The more prepared boys of Guinea humiliated the younger red, white and blue shirted boys with two spectacular goals from Amollah Sella in both halves of the match which were sufficient to bury the junior national team and Liberians’ expectations. From the onset of the game, lapses, including those from Omaru Fofana of Junior Lone Star gave the visiting team a remarkable advantage through which they properly collected all the three points. Fofana was substituted before the end of the first half but it brought no relief as the junior national team suffered more woes.A penalty was awarded Liberia in the 79th minute but to the annoyance of thousands of fans Melvin Blapoh of LISCR FC, in the national league, kicked the ball directly into the hands of the Guinean goalkeeper. That miss, coupled with other flaws saw the young team now at a very critical crossroad. This means that the Under 20 national team must overturn the 2-0 loss with three goals to ensure their continuation in tournament, which comes on two weeks in Conakry. The coach of the U-20 team, Christopher Wreh said the team’s loss, among other challenges, included lack of funds to have begun training ahead of the competition.Wleh who also played for Arsenal in England said the team did well, despite the 2-0 and noted that the team is returning to camp to better prepared for the return leg in Guinea.Share this:Click to share on Twitter (Opens in new window)Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window)last_img
